Hierve El Agua (Boiling Water)

====================
Image of Hierve El Agua This location about 25 miles east of the city of Oaxaca, features natural springs that contain a lot of carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the water. When the springs emerge, the gas bubbles out making it appear that the water is boiling. The slight acidity of the water carries large amounts of dissolved minerals as well. As the springs emerge high on a mountainside, the water flows over the edge depositing the dissolved minerals in a sort of 'petrified waterfall.' Seeing the huge quantity of deposits makes us think that there must be some vast caverns beneath the mountain somewhere.
